San Diego For Free

 San Diego Free

For vacation-goers in San Diego, there is plenty to see and do that won’t cost you a cent.

It might be a bit too cold to go swimming, but it’s mild enough in San Diego to enjoy the stunning sunsets all year round. A particular hot spot for prime sunset viewing is La Jolla Cove. When the wind picks up, watch the hang gliders at Torrey Pines State Beach – the regulars are bold and fearless, performing tricks along the coastal cliffs that will take your breath away.

Speaking of bayside breezes, watch the kites flying in all manner of spectacular colors and formations in Mission Bay Park, where the weather attracts families and kite enthusiasts daily. Joggers will also appreciate the park’s scenic paths, a total of 20 miles that wind through the park and past the shore. The Mission Beach Boardwalk is perfect for a stroll, a run, a rollerblade, or a bike ride.

Music lovers will enjoy the free organ concerts in Balboa Park at the Spreckels Organ Pavilion, every Sunday afternoon at 2pm. Selected museums offer free entry on Tuesdays, check their websites for further details. Telescopes are available for star-gazing at the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center on the first Wednesday of each month. In Chula Vista, you can tour the U.S. Olympic Training Center on Saturdays at 11am with a guide, or by yourself between 9am and 4pm any other day. See the state of the art training fields, athlete dorm complexes, as well as the Otay Lake Reservoir.
